This project was completed as a conceptual case study.

The Problem:
Capture the cultural dysphoria of the convenience store in the Alberta rural town, which is run by Korean owners.

The Solution:
This exploration was to communicate the cultural dysphoria: a blend of Korean and Canadian settings. I had a random thought for a month about replacing the roof of the convenience store for fun, with the traditional roof of Korean architecture, kiwa. The store carried some Asian foods, and the Koreans own it. I just thought replacing the roof would be an interesting experiment to try. The building I referred to looked suitable to replace the roof with another.
Different texture brushes enhanced the more organic atmosphere of this illustration. I used quadratic colour schemes (red-green, yellow-blue) to push myself outside of my comfort zone. The muted colour palette creates the traditional atmosphere of this store. Overall, the English store sign with Korean architecture creates interesting synergy.
