This project was completed as a conceptual case study.
The Problem:
Design a highly detailed figure illustration where light acts as the core narrative agent, innovating a lighting system that purposefully shapes the figure to communicate a dramatic effect and deepen the audience's understanding of the character's story and context.
The Solution:
Inspired by my previous project discussion rough, I want to further expand my scene. The scene focuses on a cowardly guard getting to know a dog. The guard is initially keeping an eye out for garden predators when the dog approaches. The guard is scared and protective at first, but he slowly opens up, won over by the dog’s friendly and endearing nature.
The scene takes place in the morning, around 11 a.m., when the sun is bright. The lighting is medium-to-slightly high key, with the sunlight serving as the main light source. Considering the time of day, I added some slight light texture in the corner to enhance the vibrancy of the scene with soft edges.
The story highlights the moment when the guard and the dog slowly become friends. A pastel colour scheme will enhance this soft, friendly atmosphere. This project is also intended to prepare my animation/ children’s book portfolio, with the audience being the general public and children.
