This project was completed for the Stettler History Book Committee.
The Problem:
Create a series of five book covers to symbolize the contents of the Stettler History Book.
Create a series of five book covers to symbolize the contents of the Stettler History Book.
The Solution:
I designed five book covers to represent the key elements of the Stettler History Book, focusing on four industries that define this town: agriculture, oil, tourism, and commerce. Since the 1900s, Stettler has maintained a particularly robust business presence compared to other small rural towns in Central Alberta. The historic train and grain elevator stand as iconic tourist attractions throughout the region.
For the cover illustrations, I chose to depict a barn, an oil field, a grain elevator with train, and Stettler's Main Street as it appeared in the 1900s. I selected Garamond typeface for its classic serif design, which reflects Stettler's historical character. The final cover features both the Stettler coat of arms and the District of Stettler logo.
Final Composition
Process
First of all, I had to explore different compositions to capture the value of Stettler properly. Then, I had discussions with the Book Committee to choose the direction of this project.
After finishing my rough ideas, I rendered my final ideas in line work, and then I made them vectors by using Image Trace on Adobe Illustrator.
