This project was completed for the Stettler History Book Committee.
The Problem:
Create a series of four book covers to symbolize the contents of the Stettler History Book.
Create a series of four book covers to symbolize the contents of the Stettler History Book.
The Solution:
At first, I selected four aspects of Stettler, considering the active industries of this town. The four active industries are: agriculture, oil field, tourism, and business. Especially among the small rural towns in Central Alberta, Stettler has had more businesses since the 1900s. The train and the grain elevator are the well-known tourist spots in Alberta. Furthermore, I decided to draw a barn, an oil field, an elevator with a train, and the 1900s Main Street of Stettler. Garamond encapsulates the heritage of Stettler through its serif features.

Process
First of all, I had to explore different compositions to capture the value of Stettler properly. Then, I had discussions with the Book Committee to choose the direction of this project.

After finishing my rough ideas, I rendered my final ideas in line work, and then I made them vectors by using Image Trace on Adobe Illustrator.

Final Composition

The book committee decided to have the cover in a burgundy background with gold line work. Furthermore, I changed my black lines to yellow to show what my composition would look like.

Mockup
I included the leather and the shiny print textures on the mockup to show how my project could look more realistic. The book committee decided to go for a faux leather cover with the shiny print for the illustration on top.
